I am an Idaho native; I grew up in Kuna, ID and graduated from Boise State University. My passion for advocating for mental health and substance use initiatives is deeply rooted in personal experiences, particularly witnessing the impact of addiction on my own family. Through these experiences, I’ve gained a profound understanding of the importance of compassion, empathy and understanding, which drives my passion for making a difference in people’s lives.
Outside of work, you’ll often find me enjoying time with my husband and our fur babies, enjoying the sunshine and savoring life’s simple pleasures. Whether it’s exploring nature or experimenting with new recipes, I believe in finding joy in every moment.
I am a true believer in the power of human connection and community, I eagerly seek opportunities to forge new relationships and extend a helping hand whenever possible.
Ben Ruhter began working as a substance abuse counselor in 2012. After raising three children, he decided to pursue counseling further, by completing his master’s degree through Northwest Nazarene University and obtaining his LPC, allowing him to help more people with a variety of substance use disorders and mental health struggles. His experience and expertise involve working with trauma, addiction, mood, and anxiety disorders. His approach to counseling comes from a humanistic and attachment base. What this means is he treats people as humans who are often complex and prefers to meet a person where they are and understand wounds that may led to certain behaviors before finding healthy alternatives.

Choosing the right level of care for a mental health condition is an important decision that can significantly impact progress and overall well-being. At Recovery Ways Idaho, we understand that every individual’s needs are unique, which is why we offer multiple options for outpatient programs.
So how do you know if an outpatient program is the right fit for you? It starts with assessing your current level of functioning and considering any potential risks involved in receiving treatment while living at home. If you have a strong support system and can manage daily responsibilities, an outpatient program may be a good option.
Another factor to consider is the severity of your mental health symptoms. Outpatient programs are often recommended for individuals with mild to moderate concerns who do not require 24/7 care. For more severe symptoms, a higher level of support such as residential treatment or partial hospitalization may be more appropriate.
It’s also important to consider your personal preferences and needs. Outpatient programs provide flexibility in scheduling and allow individuals to maintain work, school, or family commitments while receiving care. However, they may not be the best choice for those needing a more structured and intensive environment.
Ultimately, consulting with a mental health professional is the best way to determine the right level of care for your situation. At Recovery Ways Idaho, our team is dedicated to providing personalized outpatient treatment options that support each individual’s unique needs and goals for long-term wellness.
